Tigers 12U Girls Win MSGHL Championship!

The Tigers 12U Girls team won the MSGHL Championship in impressive fashion.  In their first game of the championship series, the Tigers defeated a tough squad from New Mexico.  Jailey Wilson recorded two goals, and Josephine Westerlund netted the eventual game winner eight minutes into the third period.

In game two, The Tigers skated to a 1-1 tie with the Boulder Bison.  Elaina Fortney scored the solo goal for the Tigers and Maizlyn Hammond stopped seven of eight shots.

Game three had the Tigers face off against the Colorado Selects, with the Tigers coming out on top by a score of 2-1.  The Tigers fell behind 1-0 in the first, but fought back with goals in the second and third periods.

Game four pitted the Tigers against the Aspen Leafs.  After dropping a goal early in the first period, the Tigers fought back evening up the score 1-1 in the first period with a goal tallied by Elaina Fortney.  After a scoreless second period, the Tigers recorded two third period off the sticks of Elana Withrow and Anika Berry.  Maizlyn Hammond was solid in net stopping 14 of 15 shots in the 3 to 1 win.

The championship game was a battle of two undefeated teams.  Anika Berry scored in the first period against the SLC Lightning, and then the Tigers defense and goaltending shut down their opponents attempts for the remainder of the match.  Maizlyn Hammond was outstanding between the pipes stopping all 17 Lightning shots in the championship shutout performance.  Tigers win 1-0!
